Teacher of The Year Award

We are accepting nominations for the the highly esteemed Teacher of the Year Award, dedicated to honoring exceptional educators in the field of English in El Salvador. This prestigious accolade aims to recognize teachers who have exhibited exemplary leadership and commitment to the art of teaching English.
We believe that great teachers inspire, motivate, and empower their students to reach new heights of knowledge and proficiency in the English language. If you know an English teacher who has made a remarkable impact on their students' lives and has consistently demonstrated innovative teaching practices, we invite you to nominate them for this distinguished award.
Self-nominations are also encouraged! If you are an English teacher who passionately imparts knowledge, fosters critical thinking, and cultivates a love for the English language, we encourage you to put yourself forward for consideration.

Purpose
The annual Teacher of the Year Award recognizes and honors the hard work and dedication of exceptional English language teachers at all levels in El Salvador.


Eligibility
Any teacher of English who:
  • is a resident and citizen of El Salvador
  • is an active member of the Teachers Up community (If you are not, register here: https://www.teachersupgrade.com/.)
  • has been a classroom teacher for a minimum of two years
  • is NOT a member of the Teachers Up core team.

Criteria
Nominees should demonstrate exceptional abilities in these categories:
  • Demonstrating excellence in English language teaching
  • Leading, serving, inspiring, and positively impacting students as well as colleagues and the community
  • Participating in professional activities such as workshops, curriculum development, committees, and the like.
  • Fostering a spirit of inquiry and a love of learning

Award
The winner of this award will receive:
  • A plaque
  • An assortment of books in teaching English
  • A Teachers Up limited-edition gift
  • A session as an invited speaker at the annual Teachers Up conference in August 2024
The award is presented during the Teachers Up conference in August 2024.

Procedures 

To nominate an English teacher for this award, the following items are required: 
  • Nomination Form: Including basic information about the nominee and their teaching context. 
  • Nominator Narrative (max. 100 words): The Nominator should detail examples of the nominee’s exemplary English language teaching, and fit for the award. The Nominator must be an individual who works or has worked directly with the nominee in their capacity as an educator, including but not limited to colleagues, supervisors/administrators, parents, or students. 
SELF-NOMINATIONS ARE ALLOWED.
Once the Award Committee reviews nominations, a limited number of finalists will be invited to submit supporting materials for second-round consideration (nominees do not need to complete or submit these materials prior to, or at the time of, nomination). The supporting materials will include:   
  • Nominee Narrative—Not to exceed one page in PDF format. Nominees can describe their educational background and reasons for becoming a teacher, outline their role within their school and its community, detail their approach to English language teaching, provide an account of professional development, and describe their accomplishments. 
  • Nominee’s Résumé (PDF document) 
Deadline
The Nomination Form must be submitted by July 30, 2024. Finalists will be identified and contacted by July 31, 2024, and asked to submit their supporting materials by August 8, 2024, for continued consideration.

​Selection
Nominations are coordinated, reviewed, and selected by the Award Committee made up of the Teachers Up representative and previous Teacher of the Year Award winners and finalists.
This honor is limited to one recipient per year.

Besides the Teacher of the Year selected by the review committee, you can vote for your Fan Favorite Teacher of the Year. The Fan Favorite category was created so that the Teachers Up community could vote for their favorite teacher, and the winner is determined by who has the largest number of likes/loves on Facebook and Instagram. Cast your vote. Voting ends August 13, 2024.
