Gerardo Melgar earned his Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Michigan State University under the sponsorship of the Fulbright Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied linguistics and an associate degree in English teaching, both from Instituto Centro Cultural.
Gerardo's teaching experience involves teaching pronunciation to international teaching assistants at Michigan State University. He also worked for seven years as a full-time teacher for Programa Empresarial ¡Supérate! from 2015 to 2022. Currently, Gerardo is a part-time instructor at Instituto Centro Cultural. Gerardo’s preparation in the English language field started at Programa Empresarial ¡Supérate!, where he was granted a three-year scholarship. In 2013, he won the Global UGRAD scholarship to study for one academic year at Augustana University in South Dakota, and at the beginning of 2020, he traveled to North Carolina State University in Wilmington with the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA). Gerardo has worked training public school teachers from San Andre's Valley in San Juan Opico. He has also participated in workshops, symposiums, conferences and conventions related to English teaching and learning. He was a presenter at the first Symposium of Applied Linguistics organized by Instituto Centro Cultural, and at the International Conference for teachers of English organized by Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán (UPNFM), Honduras. In 2022, he attented the Virtual TESOL Convention, and the Michigan TESOL Conference. |
