Component 2: General English
Teachers Up members who want to improve their English language proficiency can join our FREE English classes.
Eligibility
Schedule of English Classes English classes are divided into two modules. Module 1 runs from February 18 to April 1, 2023 and Module 2 from July 1 to August 26, 2023. English classes will be offered every week in two schedules: from 8:30 am to 9:30 am and from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Classes will be taught on Zoom and will last for one hour. Registration Interested teachers and students have to register for each module. After registering, for the purpose of diagnosis, participants will take a required English entry test which will not affect the status of the registration. Registration for Module 1 closes on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Eligible registrants will receive a confirmation email containing the link to the entry test. They need to complete the entry test by Thursday, February 16, 2023. Register for Module 1 NOW! Completion Certificates There are seven classes in each module. If participants complete 5 out of 7 classes in a module, they will be awarded a completion certificate of that module. |

Meet the Instructors
Get to know our talented and dedicated instructors. Each instructor will bring their own unique ability to connect and teach while staying true to Teachers Up's mission of inspiring, encouraging, and training teachers of English in El Salvador.
Marielos Catota |
Marielos Catota holds an associate degree in English teaching from UCA, and she has finished her undergraduate studies at the same institution. Marielos is a ¡Supérate! Program alumna and she is currently working as a full-time English teacher at ¡Supérate! Hilasal. Marielos is also an alumna of the OPEN program in which she completed a course on fostering students´ motivation and engagement. The course was taught by the University of Oregon and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. She has also participated in webinars and online cultural exchange programs with Montgomery College, Maryland, U.S.A.
Marielos has worked in private and public institutions in El Salvador, and she has participated in several education programs which benefit vulnerable populations. In 2020, she designed an English course oriented to help children to develop cognitive and social skills through online environments. |
Jenniffer Renate |
Jenniffer Renate graduated from the University of El Salvador with a bachelor´s degree in English teaching. At the moment, she is researching how metacognitive strategies can help students improve their speaking skills to obtain her master´s degree in education. She participated in two programs sponsored by the US Department of State: The Global UGRAD program in 2011 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Fulbright TEA Program in 2019 at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
She taught English to kids, teenagers, and adults since 2012 at Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano, Colegio El Camino, and Educlase English Academy. She is currently working as an English Teacher for kids and teenagers at Centro Escolar Organizacion Estados Iberoamericanos. She loves teaching because she believes she can contribute to the development of her students’ abilities to become better persons, citizens, or professionals in the future. |
Pilar Magaña |
Pilar Magaña graduated from Don Bosco University with a bachelor’s degree in English teaching. She has taught English to children and adults since 2013. She has been a member of the Teacher-to-teacher Alaska to El Salvador program for language teachers and has earned the Lens of ECRIF in English Learning certificate issued by Don Bosco University.
She has developed workshops for English teachers on how to create a communicative classroom. She is currently working as an English teacher at Don Bosco University. What she likes the most about teaching is the great opportunity to share knowledge and to gain experience as she works with others. |
Maira Ramírez |
Maira Ramírez has been working as an English and French teacher for over 10 years. She has worked in different private and public higher education institutions such as: University of El Salvador, Don Bosco University and Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios (ESEN), and some English academies and schools. She also worked as a full-time teacher for Programa Empresarial ¡Supérate! where she learned the great power of transformation education has on everyone. Also, she has been working as a TOEFL and TOEIC instructor for 5 years. She has experience working with children, teens, and young adults and adults from different contexts around El Salvador. In addition, she has worked as a translator, tutor, and pronunciation coach.
Maira holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages: French and English major from University of El Salvador, and she is currently working on her final research for her Master´s Degree in Educational Policies from Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA). In addition, she has participated in several national and international teaching training programs, workshops, symposiums, and seminars. |
Irvin Romero |
Irvin Romero has been teaching English since 2013. He has experience working with kids, teenagers, and adults in public and private institutions.
He obtained his bachelor's degree in language and literature from Universidad de Sonsonate. He has participated in different scholarship programs, such as Centro ¡Supérate! CASSA Sonsonate in 2011; Study of the US Institutes, sponsored by the US Department of States in 2013; and the Chevening Scholarship Program in 2020, through which he got his master's degree in language education from the University of Edinburgh, in the UK. |
